if it wont fully engage lay them out as I did and see how far you are going to need to move the pump drive. a good strait line of sight and put the new unit back in. never do that align the old dist rotor up on either of the back manifold bolts.
I have seen posts where people are moving the engine. big snap on screw driver ground the hilt round to fit dist hole and after several short bumps it dropped in right where it needed to. they have them in their borrow /rental tools, it will drop in and engage the oil pump drive and you can move it the tiny amount you need to put every thing back in its happy place or you can do as I did. go to your local auto parts store and request an oil pump primer for a small block chevy. I believe this is whats causing so many grief.
what I noticed is the drive bar that engages the oil pump is a little larger in the replacement dist. I used a bolt on my intake for line up if you do this you will not screw this up.Īfter removing my old dist I layed them side by side with the rotor pointed directly at the cam sensor plug. I gave this a 4 because as some others have mentioned here it was not perfectly aligned.
